I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with a B.S. in Kinesiology based in Lakewood, Colorado. I have been running and lifting for over fifteen years, and climbing and hiking for a decade. I believe movement is foundational in a fulfilling life.
I grew up running and lifting in Kentucky. I was privileged to attend the United States Military Academy where I studied the body as a performance system and was taught foundations of leadership: compassion, trust, guidance, accountability, integrity. Afterwards, I spent a short time in Georgia training to be an Infantryman, got married, and moved across the Atlantic to Germany. In four years leading Soldiers, I was also able to become a CSCS and attend the Army’s Master Fitness Trainer course which helped prepare me for my favorite role among many: personal trainer. I planned and coached individual and group fitness plans to develop my Soldiers to peak physical condition despite graveyard shifts, bad sleep, worse nutrition, and weeks in “the field.”
I trained diligently, hit lifetime PR goals in the gym, picked up new outdoor hobbies, and read a lot of research papers. I was truly blessed to have the chance to make so many memories across Europe: summiting mountains in Slovenia, skiing in Austria, kayaking in Germany, biking in Ireland, and walking loads in between. Upon arrival back in the US, my wife and I section hiked just over 550 miles of the Appalachian Trail (AT) to send off our East Coast home.
All that is to say, I learned through my own experience and those around me how health can be a gateway to exploring the world. I met an octogenarian bartender who routinely walked a mile to the grocery store over cobblestones and a septuagenarian walking fifteen miles a day with a full backpack on the AT; they had other options, but they chose the trek.
Whatever your next venture is, I will prepare you for it.
